For my purpose, that is too complex, so I tried to make it simple. Every 2 seconds, the time millis() and freeHEAP() ist send to the attached Telnet Client. The program was tested with success with the following Telnet Clients. Unfortunately I do not understand, what you mean with leak on new connnections. You should not check the network every 2 seconds in the loop that should be done as often as possible (each loop). There is no problem for you to send data every 2 seconds or so, but checks and data read should be done all the time to keep the network stack happy. The example I gave you is almost all you need and only has the sending to clients missing. I also believe there is a WiFiTelnetToSerial example that can show you more.
